2x + 4 does NOT equal 6x.

And this is the type of thing I have to correct on the “completing the squares” test in Algebra 2.  Algebra 2.  Still combining constants and variables.  Maybe not the strongest math students, OK, but this has been a foundation of algebra since middle school.  It invalidates the whole question.  How can I even say if you’re doing the rest of the problem right if you make THAT mistake at the first step?

What should have been an hour-long grading process has taken like 3 nights.  … Really liking the idea of multiple choice tests.  Right or wrong.

What’s really frustrating, on this test, i GAVE the answers and said: work your way to the answer.  If you work does not lead you to the answer, it’s wrong.  Fix it.

But still…crap crap crap…then magically, equals sign, the right answer.  And they expect credit?  Ugh….

About Mr. T

Well, I'm interested in math. Teaching it, learning it, describing it, living it. Creating it. Most importantly (to me) is helping others appreciate it as much as I do.
